Moving from one ecommerce system to another should not be an insurmountable barrier. Businesses are at risk of being put off by the perceived switching costs of moving from a legacy system and a dated look and feel to a new platform and design. The fear is that transferring products and product data from the old to the new will be too large an undertaking. This is understandable as some online stores have many tens of thousands of products and variations.
We have extensive experience with migrating online stores of all sizes from platforms such as Big Commerce, Shopify, Magento, and proprietary systems to WooCommerce. The benefits are in the fact that we can customise every aspect of the shopping experience from font end design to operational and fulfilment processes. Businesses need not be beholden to limitations of the ecommerce system.
Our work with Audio Junction is a good example. A Newcastle audio and visual equipment institution, Audio Junction were an early adopter of eCommerce. They have long maintained an online store and this was reflected in an outdated front end design and back end limitations that were no longer fit for purpose and the expectations of 2018. The redevelopment project required a modern UX and look and feel as well as a product management system that provided efficiency and operational ease.
The number of products were not an issue as we were able to extract the product data from the old system, prepare an import file, and import all the data into their new WooCommerce system. A tidy up of the product pages and category pages with higher quality images, up-to-date descriptions was undertaken as well as design work to ensure the shopping experience was faithful to the overall look and feel of the site and brand.
